Dad Joke of the Week

What did the lightning say to the fireworks?

(scroll to the end for the answer)

This Week in Kentucky History

March 1876: Meat fell from the sky in Bath County, Kentucky. Actual meat. Scientists have debated the cause ever since, making Kentucky the only state where "raining cats and dogs" was apparently taken as a challenge. Witnesses reported chunks of meat, some as large as several inches across, scattered across a field near Olympia Springs, creating one of the strangest, and most famous, mysteries in Kentucky history.

Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.

Man on the Move

Fear Makes Things Happen Faster

Dudes, have you ever noticed that the thing you spend the most time worrying about somehow becomes the thing that actually happens?

You obsess over saying the wrong thing. Then you say the wrong thing.

You worry about looking nervous. Then you act nervous.

You fear failing. Then you play so cautiously that you fail anyway.

The strange truth is that fear has a way of steering us directly toward the outcome we're trying to avoid.

When your mind becomes fixated on a negative possibility, it starts changing your behavior. You hesitate. You overthink. You second-guess yourself.

And suddenly you're not reacting to reality anymore, you're reacting to the movie playing in your head.

Psychologists call this a self-fulfilling prophecy. Most of us just call it bad luck.

Here's the Move: The next time you catch yourself worrying about a future outcome, ask yourself one question: "What would I do right now if I weren't afraid?" Then do that.

Why Bother? Because fear is a terrible strategist. It wants safety, not success. The less time you spend preparing for imaginary disasters, the more time you have creating the outcome you actually want..

why elk meat might be the best thing you haven’t cooked yet

Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read

Beef gets all the attention, but there's another red meat that many hunters would choose every single time. If you've never had elk, you're missing out on one of the best meals the outdoors has to offer.

Bourbon, Brews, & THC

coors just released a whiskey and i can't believe i'm saying this

Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read

A beer company has no business making quality bourbon. So naturally, I had to try it and see if they actually pulled it off.
