Kentucky Dudette of the Week

Dad Joke of the Week

How can you tell if a country singer’s at your door?

(scroll to the end for the answer)

This Week in Kentucky History

June 1893: Louisville, KY sisters Patty and Mildred Hill composed a simple song for their kindergarten class called "Good Morning to All." By late June, the melody was registered, and it eventually evolved into "Happy Birthday to You"…the most legally recognized and sung piece of music in human history, born right in Jefferson County.

Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.

my railbird 2026 review as a kentuckian

Kentucky Dude Original, 2-minute read

If you thought navigating Lexington traffic on a normal weekend was wild, try doing it when 45,000 music fans hijack the Red Mile for a weekend of lawless festival fashion and sun baked stadium anthems. We survived the blistering heat, the long lines, $10 drinks and a massive roster of world class music…and we have the full, hometown breakdown of who absolutely conquered the stage.

kentucky’s most bizarre and controversial laws

Kentucky Dude original, 1-minute read

Ever wonder why you can legally own a neon blue Easter bunny in Kentucky only if you buy five of his friends? Our state's legal history reads less like a statutory code and more like a collection of hyper-specific dare consequences that are still technically on the books. You’ll enjoy this one!

Man on the Move

Fear Makes Things Happen Faster

Dudes, have you ever noticed that the thing you spend the most time worrying about somehow becomes the thing that actually happens?

You obsess over saying the wrong thing. Then you say the wrong thing.

You worry about looking nervous. Then you act nervous.

You fear failing. Then you play so cautiously that you fail anyway.

The strange truth is that fear has a way of steering us directly toward the outcome we're trying to avoid.

When your mind becomes fixated on a negative possibility, it starts changing your behavior. You hesitate. You overthink. You second-guess yourself.

And suddenly you're not reacting to reality anymore, you're reacting to the movie playing in your head.

Psychologists call this a self-fulfilling prophecy. Most of us just call it bad luck.

Here's the Move: The next time you catch yourself worrying about a future outcome, ask yourself one question: "What would I do right now if I weren't afraid?" Then do that.

Why Bother? Because fear is a terrible strategist. It wants safety, not success. The less time you spend preparing for imaginary disasters, the more time you have creating the outcome you actually want..

where the catfish actually are in kentucky

Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read

If you think catching a massive Kentucky catfish is just about tossing a chunk of hot dog into the water and taking a nap, you're the reason your cooler is empty. Landing the big three…Channels, Blues, and Flatheads, requires reading a river like a roadmap rather than just blindly soaking bait. Here are some tips to find where they are.

Bourbon, Brews, & THC

why kentucky water matters so much for bourbon and even beer

Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read

Kentucky bourbon gets all the glory, but there's a hidden ingredient most people never think about. It isn't the corn, the barrels, or even the distillers, it's the water flowing through millions of years of Kentucky limestone, quietly doing its job before the first drop is ever made. Here are why distillers and brewers obsess over Kentucky water and how it helped make the Bluegrass State the bourbon capital of the world.

Dad Joke of the Week: Answer

They can’t find the key and don’t know when to come in. 😂
