Dad Joke of the Week
What do dads say when teaching kids to fish?
(scroll to the end for the answer)
This Week in Kentucky History
May 17, 1875: Louisville hosted the very first Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, launching what would become one of the state’s defining traditions. The race was inspired by the great European horse races, but it quickly became its own distinctly Kentucky event. In that first Derby, 15 horses ran before a crowd of about 10,000 people. What started as a local sporting event soon grew into a national spectacle that still defines Kentucky every spring.
Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.

are your related to royalty? if you have one of these last names, you might be!
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
You ever look at your last name and wonder if there’s a little more to it than meets the eye? Turns out, some folks walking around Kentucky might be carrying names tied to kings, queens, and old-world power and it’s way more common than you’d think. Before you shrug it off, you might want to see if your name made the list.

street, road, avenue, freeway: not the same thing, dude
Kentucky Dude original, 1-minute read
You’ve probably used all these words without thinking twice, and honestly, most of us just call everything a “road” and move on. But there’s actually a method to the madness, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it. Next time you’re driving, you might realize those signs are telling you more than you thought.
Man on the Move

Fast for 24 Hours for More Discipline
Dudes, most people think they’re in control.
Until they get hungry.
Skip food for a few hours and nothing happens. Skip it for a full day, and suddenly your brain turns into a used car salesman.
“You should eat.” “You need energy.” “This probably isn’t healthy.” It gets loud.
Hunger doesn’t just sit there. It negotiates. It tells stories. It makes deals. It starts lowering standards.
And the wild part? None of that is coming from your body. It’s your mind trying to stay comfortable.
That’s when you realize something. You’re not fighting hunger. You’re watching how fast you look for an excuse to quit. A 24-hour fast isn’t about dieting. It’s about exposure.
Then during the day, something flips. You get past the noise. The hunger’s still there, but it’s quieter. Less urgent. Less emotional.
You realize you’re fine.
Here’s the Move: Go 24 hours without food. Drink water. Stay busy. Don’t overthink it. Just observe.
Why bother? Because discipline doesn’t show up when things are easy. It shows up when your brain starts negotiating and you decide not to listen. There are also health benefits to fasting occasionally dudes.

the top 5 deepest lakes in kentucky
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
You ever stare out over a lake in Kentucky and wonder just how far down it actually goes? Turns out, some of that water is a whole lot deeper than it looks and it changes the way fish behave more than most people realize. Before you make your next cast, it might be worth knowing what’s happening below the surface.
Bourbon, Brews, & THC

are THC drinks the future of social drinking?
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
Something new is sneaking into coolers across the country and it’s not trying to replace your drink, just sit next to it. At first glance, it looks like another trendy beverage, but there’s a bigger shift happening underneath. And whether you’re curious or skeptical, it might be worth knowing what’s showing up at the party.
