Dad Joke of the Week
My dad says if you can’t fix it with duct tape…
(scroll to the end for the answer)
This Week in Kentucky History
May 1774: James Harrod and a team of surveyors arrived to lay out "Harrod's Town" (Harrodsburg, KY), establishing the absolute first permanent Euro-American settlement in Kentucky. It beat Daniel Boone's Boonesborough by a few months, securing ultimate bragging rights, securing ultimate bragging rights and the official title of the "Birthplace of the Bluegrass.
Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.
how to trim a mustache
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
Dudes, somewhere between “rugged outdoorsman” and “man banned from riverboat casinos,” there’s a very fine mustache line. And every guy who’s ever tried trimming his own mustache has crossed it at least once. Usually at 11:30 at night with tiny scissors, bad lighting, and way too much confidence. This is how I trim my stache without accidentally turning myself into the weird guy at the gas station who definitely sells loose fireworks (maybe).
why do cats' eyes glow in the dark?
Kentucky Dude original, 1-minute read
Every Dude who’s ever taken the trash out at night has had that moment. You look across the yard, see two glowing eyes staring back at you from the darkness, and immediately start wondering whether it’s the family cat… or something that escaped from the Appalachian Mountains. Turns out there’s real science behind those glowing eyeballs, and once you understand it, nighttime somehow gets both less creepy and way more fascinating.
Man on the Move

Say No Without Burning Bridges
Dudes, most people avoid saying no because they think it creates conflict.
Truth is, saying yes to everything creates worse problems.
You overcommit. You rush. You resent it later. And suddenly your calendar looks like a hostage situation.
So instead of saying no clearly, people start negotiating against themselves.
“Maybe.” “I’ll try.” “Let me see what I can do.”
That’s not kindness. That’s delay.
The problem is most people think “no” has to sound aggressive. It doesn’t.
You can respect someone without sacrificing your own priorities.
In fact, most successful people appreciate directness because it saves everyone time.
The more comfortable you get saying no, the less pressure you feel to constantly prove yourself.
Here’s the Move: Pause before answering requests. If it creates stress, distraction, or resentment immediately, that’s probably your answer already.
Why Bother? Because every unnecessary yes steals time from the people, goals, and responsibilities that actually matter. Respectful honesty protects relationships better than exhausted resentment ever well.

topwater fishing ruins you forever
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
Dudes, if you’ve never had a bass explode through the surface trying to murder your lure, you haven’t fully lived yet. Topwater fishing changes a dude. One second you’re calmly holding a rod, the next you’re yelling loud enough to scare every goose within three counties. Here’s to why this is an obsession, the best conditions for it in Kentucky, and a few of our favorite top water baits.
Bourbon, Brews, & THC
hy kentucky bourbon barrels can only be used once
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
Ever wonder why the bourbon industry goes through expensive containers faster than a bachelor goes through paper plates? There is a fascinating, legally enforced reason Kentucky barrels are strictly one-and-done, and it’s not just because distillers love a shopping spree.
Dad Joke of the Week: Answer
