Dad Joke of the Week
What’s the difference between light and hard?
(scroll to the end for the answer)
This Week in Kentucky History
May 25, 2000: Kentucky Speedway officially opened in Northern Kentucky, bringing major motorsports to the state for the first time on a national scale. Built in the small town of Sparta along Interstate 71, the speedway quickly became a destination for NASCAR and Indy Racing League fans across Kentucky and the Midwest. What started as a bold project in rural Gallatin County soon transformed the region into a major racing weekend hotspot packed with campers, tailgates, and horsepower.
Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.

how smokehouse curing actually works
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
No joke. Halfway through writing this article the hunger overcame my willpower, and I had to take a lunch to get some smoked meat. Luckily, I’m within a short drive of some of my favorite spots in Kentucky. Back on topic. Every Dude in Kentucky should know the difference and one day I will show Oliver how to carry on the tradition. Enjoy.

operation blue egg lockdown

You’ve probably walked past a robin’s nest a hundred times without thinking much about it. But those little birds are running a full-blown construction site, security operation, and food delivery business right on your porch. Once you realize how much work goes into raising baby birds, you start looking at robins a whole lot differently. Enjoy.
Man on the Move

Say No Without Burning Bridges
Dudes, most people avoid saying no because they think it creates conflict.
Truth is, saying yes to everything creates worse problems.
You overcommit. You rush. You resent it later. And suddenly your calendar looks like a hostage situation.
So instead of saying no clearly, people start negotiating against themselves.
“Maybe.” “I’ll try.” “Let me see what I can do.”
That’s not kindness. That’s delay.
The problem is most people think “no” has to sound aggressive. It doesn’t.
You can respect someone without sacrificing your own priorities.
In fact, most successful people appreciate directness because it saves everyone time.
The more comfortable you get saying no, the less pressure you feel to constantly prove yourself.
Here’s the Move: Pause before answering requests. If it creates stress, distraction, or resentment immediately, that’s probably your answer already.
Why Bother? Because every unnecessary yes steals time from the people, goals, and responsibilities that actually matter. Respectful honesty protects relationships better than exhausted resentment ever well.

the mechanics of the kentucky river palisades
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
So many people drive past the Kentucky River and never realize they’re looking at one of the oldest and strangest geological features in the state. But once you see the Palisades from the water, it hits different, like Kentucky accidentally hid a canyon in the middle of horse country. And the craziest part? A river built the whole thing one slow cut at a time.

the ride matters more than the arrival
Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read
A lot of dads spent their whole lives proving how tough they are, working through pain, never slowing down, and acting like rest is something you earn after you’re dead. But somewhere between growing older and watching our parents age, you start wondering if maybe relaxing a little isn’t weakness after all.
Dad Joke of the Week: Answer
It’s easier to fall asleep with a light on. 😂
