Dad Joke of the Week

My boss told me to have a good day.

This Week in Kentucky History

May 1970: In 1970, legendary writer Hunter S. Thompson went to Churchill Downs to cover the race for Scanlan’s Monthly. He ended up writing "The Kentucky Derby Is Decadent and Depraved," a gonzo-style piece that forever changed how the world viewed the Derby crowd. It turned the event from a formal horse race into a global pop-culture phenomenon of "Southern style" and excess.

Oliver’s Questions

Turns out, our main source of inspiration for many articles is a pint-sized, 10-year-old dude (my son) who thinks he's got all the answers, forcing me into a constant state of fact-checking.

how many notes are in lynard skynyrd's song 'free bird'?

Kentucky Dude Original, 1-minute read

f you’ve ever tried to count the notes in the "Free Bird" solo, you probably stopped around note 47 to just play air guitar in your kitchen instead. We looked up the math (and the guesswork) to find out if this legendary marathon is a masterpiece of precision or just beautiful, high-speed chaos. Here you go!

urinal etiquette. yes, this matters

There are rules in life nobody writes down but everyone expects you to follow. Mess them up, and you won’t get a warning… just a look. This is one of those situations.

Man on the Move

Do Less, Get More Done

Dudes, ever feel like you’re busy all day… and somehow got nothing done?

You checked boxes. Sent emails. Knocked out tasks. And still feel behind.

That’s not a motivation problem. That’s a focus problem.

It’s something called the Pareto Principle.

Most of your results come from a small fraction of your effort.

More work doesn’t fix it. More hours don’t either. The wrong work just scales frustration.

The 80/20 rule is simple: 80% of outcomes come from 20% of inputs.

Not all tasks are equal. Some move the needle. Most don’t.

But we treat them the same. That’s where things break.

The guys getting ahead aren’t doing more. They’re doing less of the right things.

They identify the few actions that actually drive results and they ignore the rest without guilt.

That’s the whole game. Not being busy. Just being effective.

Here’s the Move: Find the 2–3 things that actually matter in your day. Do those first. Protect that time like it’s the only thing that counts because it is.

Why bother? Because being busy is easy. Being effective is rare. When you focus on what actually moves the needle, progress stops feeling random and starts feeling predictable.
