This Week in Kentucky History
April 4, 1983: The maiden voyage of the Space Shuttle Challenger launched with Mission Specialist Story Musgrave, the astronaut from Lexington, KY. (Note: He technically grew up in Massachusetts but officially calls Lexington his home). The STS-6 mission featured the first-ever spacewalk of the shuttle program, performed by Musgrave and Donald Peterson. It marked the beginning of a legendary career for Musgrave, the only person to fly on all five Space Shuttles.
