The Buck, The Shot, The Antler, The Super Glue; My Kentucky Hunting Story

The Buck, The Shot, The Antler, The Super Glue; My Kentucky Hunting Story

This is the most Kentucky Dude hunting story ever told.

I shot a buck, the antler fell off/was shot off, was broken off, and instead of panicking, I found it, grabbed super glue like any well-seasoned Kentucky Dude/surgeon.

Kentucky deer season is basically our Super Bowl, Christmas Morning, and emotional therapy session all rolled together. And this year, brother… we had a hunt worth telling.

Let’s set the scene.

Perfect weather. A good wind. The kind of morning where even the squirrels are behaving.

You’re in the stand feeling like Daniel Boone with Wi-Fi.

Then he walks in.

A buck with a rack that makes you look twice, and you think he is a shooter.

Quartering away quickly. A tough angle. You know you shouldn’t take that shot.

Every biologist in Kentucky would say no.

Every old-timer at the diner would say no.

Even the deer probably whispered, “Don’t do it, man.”

But you’re human. And humans make choices.

The Shot Heard ‘Round the Backyard

You send it. High hit. Clean pass-through. Deer goes down. You celebrate like a man who suddenly forgives all his enemies.

Then you walk up and… Something’s missing.

Part of the antler. Gone. Did I shoot it off?

Did he break it off? Was it really ever there?

And that’s when you did what any Kentucky Dude with zero hesitation and maximum confidence would do, you searched, found the antler (right beside the deer):

You went full Dollar General Surgeon.

Super glue. Precision alignment. A level of craftsmanship that Amish men would applaud.

We didn’t just fix an antler. We resurrected it.

Harvest Dates in Kentucky (For the Folks Who Like Data)

According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife:

  • 2024 Modern Gun Season: Nov. 9 – 24

  • Archery: Sept. 7 – Jan. 20

  • Crossbow: Oct. 1 – Dec. 31

  • Youth Season: Oct. 12 – 13 and Dec. 28 – 29

Harvest totals each year hover between 120,000 and 140,000 deer, depending on the weather, the acorn crop, and how many guys try quartering-away shots they shouldn’t take.

Currently, in our old Kentucky home, we have harvested a total of approximately 107K deer as of Wednesday, 11/19/2025, morning at 6:00 AM EST. 56,596 of those 107K are bucks. And the rest…meat!

Better than new. The Dollar General Buck.A Do-It-Yourself Legend.

And for the record: everyone super glues something in their deer career eventually, we’re just honest enough to admit it.

Kentucky Dude Verdict

Was the shot ideal? No.

Did you make the most Kentucky recovery in hunting history? Absolutely.

Did the deer look great afterward? Damn right he did.

Hunting isn’t about perfect shots. It’s about stories that get better every time you tell them.

And brother… this one’s gonna live forever.
