Dudes, I know a guy.

Actually... we all know a guy.

He's got a bourbon collection that'll make you stop in your tracks.

Pappy. Blanton's. Weller. Birthday Bourbon.

Shelves full of bottles.

And every single one has one thing in common.

They're all unopened.

Apparently, he's waiting for a "special occasion."

I've got bad news.

The special occasion is today.

Stop saving the good bourbon. Your kids are going to sell it at your estate sale for twenty bucks anyway.

We Do This with Everything

The nice bourbon. The expensive cigars. The fancy pocketknife. The good fishing lure. The new boots.

Somehow, we convince ourselves life is going to announce the perfect day.

Spoiler alert.

It doesn't.

Tuesdays Count Too

One of the best glasses of bourbon I've ever had wasn't at a wedding.

It wasn't celebrating a promotion.

It wasn't New Year's Eve.

It was a random Tuesday sitting outside after cutting the grass.

The bourbon didn't make the night memorable.

The people did.

Kentucky Has This Backwards

We're surrounded by the greatest bourbon on Earth.

People literally travel across the world to drink what we buy at Kroger.

Meanwhile...

Half of us are staring at unopened bottles like they're museum pieces.

That feels wrong.

Bourbon Was Never Meant to Be Collected

It was meant to be poured.

Shared.

Talked about.

Passed around the fire pit.

A bottle with three fingers missing usually has a better story than one that's still wrapped in plastic.

Do This Instead

I'm not saying drink your entire collection this weekend.

I'm saying quit acting like every bottle is a retirement account.

Open one.

Invite somebody over.

Tell a few lies about the deer that got away.

That's what bourbon was built for.
